From the CEO’s Desk

The CCH today stands poised to undergo a metamorphosis, from a hospital to a research based institute. In less than 15 years of its existence, this is indeed a commendable feat by any standards.

The hospital has improved tremendously both in terms of quality and infrastructure. We are taking initiatives for improvement in every department. Having stepped into the quality assurance management system, we now strive for patient satisfaction on all levels inclusive of the treatment offered. The well being of the patient remains our number one priority.

The CCH is now pursuing capacity building in terms of personnel. Doctors and paramedical staff are being trained in the art and science of treating a child with cancer. The special empathy that is required to work in this field is being inculcated into our staff.

Infrastructure upgrading is being done in piece meal steps. We have installed high-tech equipment in the pharmacy to prepare the chemotherapeutic drugs in a sterile set up with filters to protect the handler and the environment. We are preparing Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) for our patients.

Microbiology laboratory has been upgraded with installation of Daytona that can run up to 140 tests in half an hour. All of this is being done with the help of philanthropic and kind hearted individuals.

A 2 bed ICU has also been started for our serious patients.

A big step forward is that medical archiving is being computerized. Very soon our medical records will be available to our staff at the click of a button.

The CCH plans to initiate nurse technician courses with the approval of the Sindh Faculty Board. This will help improve our team and at the same time provide trained manpower to other hospitals.

We have hired an English teacher for the in-house upgrading of our staff. That has helped tremendously in enabling the lower staff in following written orders.

The UICC My Child Matters program has led us to the nooks and corners of our province in search of doctors and nurses waiting to be trained in the childhood cancer management.

All of our efforts have sort of snow balled to lead us to an increased number of patients and hence the workload!

We are literally bursting at the seams in our current premises. Our new hospital is set to step out of the paper plans into reality. The ends of 2010 will, God willing, see the start of construction work on site.

We need all the support that we can get!
